DIESEL is on course to become cheaper than unleaded petrol for the first time in almost a decade, according to supermarket bosses.
Supermarket Asda is charging the same for the fuels at 80 UK forecourts and predicts unleaded will overtake diesel within weeks.

On Tuesday the retail giant was charging between 99.9p and 100.9p a litre for both.
Energy consultant John Hall said diesel had already dipped below unleaded on wholesale markets.
The narrowing price gap is due to rising US demand for unleaded coinciding with a global production slump making unleaded more expensive.
In addition, recession-hit truckers and businesses are using less diesel, which is creating a surplus of supply.
It marks a huge change from last summer when diesel cost on average 13.5p a litre more than unleaded.
Diesel has not been cheaper than unleaded at UK pumps since June 2001, while the two fuels last cost the same two years ago.
Average UK pump prices yesterday stood at 102.66p a litre for unleaded and 104.85p for diesel.
