Sheffield United 104-8, The Tytherington Club 1st XI 105-1. The Tytherington Club won by nine wickets.

AFTER three successive washouts, The Tytherington Club began their season in fine style. This may go down as the coming of age match for 14-year-old Hannah Gradwell who, having made some promising contributions for this team and the Cheshire county side last year, produced her first matchwinning performance in the rarified atmosphere of the ECB Premier League North.

Three of the Sheffield top four got a start, but none could pass 20, frustrated by some very disciplined bowling. One of the most remarkable performances was Kate Skelhorn's 1-5 in eight overs, which featured just one scoring shot, plus three wides. Indeed on very few occasions were the batsmen able to make contact with Skelhorn's deliveries that swung away prodigiously. And just as the Blades were looking to rebuild, they were utterly becalmed by the spin duo of Lorna Thomas and Gradwell.

Not content with taking 2-10 in seven overs, Gradwell steered Tytherington to victory in less than half the allotted 50 overs, making an unbeaten 48 from 62 deliveries, with shots all round the wicket. Dawn Prestidge was also in good form with 28 not out.
