Poynton 1st XI Upton 145-8 dec, Poynton 125. Upton won by 20 runs.
A frustrating afternoon for Poynton as a combination of poor shot selection and poor umpiring brought about their downfall.
The duration and timing of the interruption for rain also went against them.
After one bad decision against Upton early on, all umpiring mistakes seemed to go against Poynton. The gods were definitely not smiling on Poynton here.
The most critical decision was the dismissal of Nafees Din who, while only notching 15, played some sumptuous shots.
Nafees' departure heralded a collapse to 30-5. Brian Kingham fought bravely for a while with little support, but was seventh out for 40 with the score on 78 and realistic victory hopes went with him.
There was still time for Simon Turner to hit 36 from 22 deliveries in a superb display of clean hitting, before he was last man out to Ian Linwood to complete his return of 4-27. Visiting captain Gary Dixon also shone with 3-29.
Apart from a partnership of 59 in 13 overs between Adam Watson, with 66, and Andy Beacher, with 27, Poynton's bowlers maintained their usual control. Turner continued his superb season with three wickets and Jon Hadley bagged two.
Poynton 2nd XI
Dropped from the first team, Damian Stringer bounced back in the best possible way with 96 not out and 6-12 in a big win over Toft.
Poynton Ladies Poynton Fire 133-0, Bredbury St Mark's 18-3. Poynton won by 115 runs.
In their first match of the season, Poynton ran out winners over Bredbury by a huge margin of 115 runs, and set a new record team score of 133 for no loss for the Women's Twenty20 Cup.
In a match restricted to 16 overs per side, it was tough for a spirited young Bredbury side to face three current Cheshire 1st XI players plus other experienced campaigners. All of the Poynton top four - Sarah McCann, Kate Holt, Katie Paterson and Jennie Kitzinger - duly made 20 runs before retiring.
Paterson then took 2-2 in three overs as Bredbury only just nudged their scoring rate above one per over. Molly Gilmartin's performance of 1-1 in three overs was a very promising debut by the young slow bowler.
