GIRL soccer players from Fallibroome High School were national runners-up in the Minute Maid U13 Schools Cup.

They were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Friary Arts and Sports College Lichfield in the national semi-final at Scunthorpe United FC last Tuesday, May 6.

Both teams were cheered on by more than 400 supporters.

Chloe Lewin, manager of Fallibroome, said: "It's been a great day out for all of us. We're obviously disappointed not to have won, but the girls should be proud of such a momentous sporting achievement to get through to the national semi-finals. This experience has given them a real taste of what professionals go through and they enjoyed every minute of it."

More than 40,000 children take part in the Minute Maid U13 Schools Cup every year, in association with the English Schools Football Association (ESFA). The regional finalists are the culmination of 45 county cup knockout competitions across the UK, with the winning boys' and girls' teams from the north and south battling it out for the title of Minute Maid U13 Schools champions.

The final will take place on Friday May 16, at the Ricoh arena in Coventry.
