Plans to boost town centre

COUNCIL chiefs have put together a three year plan aimed at boosting the borough's town centres.

The Town Centres Plan is a priority for the Trafford Economic Alliance, whose members include key business sector and town centre partnership representatives.

This strategy represents a shared approach to the challenges facing industry and business and the way forward for the future.

Chris Fletcher, who chairs Trafford Economic Alliance and is deputy chief executive and policy director at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said: "The town centres are a crucial component of Trafford’s economic prosperity.

"This plan helps co-ordinate the work of a number of organisations and business partners in the town centres, contributing to the shaping of their policies and helping to inform investment decisions.”

The blueprint addresses the key challenges and issues facing town centres today and focuses on the main factors vital to their success such as access, investment, environment, marketing, security and business support, as well as links to national and regional policies.

Residents and businesses are being invited to comment on the plan by completing a questionnaire on the main factors and priorities set out. The online consultation will take place from December 8 to January 12.

Town Centre stalls will be on the following dates between 1pm and 4pm: * Altrincham - The Graftons - (entrance next to Greggs, George Street) – December 16.

* Sale – near Select, Market Walk, The Square Shopping Centre – December 11 * Stretford – near McDonald's, Stretford Mall - December 15.

* Urmston - near Boots, Flixton Road, Urmston - December 19.

The Town Centres Plan will also be available for viewing and questionnaires can be completed at Altrincham, Sale, Stretford and Stretford libraries between December 8 and January 15.
