Bank staff help make a difference at hospital

A THIRTY - two strong team from Barclays has created an attractive garden for patients at Wythenshawe Hospital’s chest clinic.

The staff from Barclays National Records Centre in Wythenshawe marked national ‘Make a Difference Day’ by giving up three days of their time to carry out the makeover.

Gill Daniels, operations manager at Barclays, said: “I’ve lived in the area for many years and wanted to give something back to the community. I know people who use the hospital and also people who work here, so it seemed the natural choice for us.

“Barclays always supports ‘Make a Difference Day’ and we had a budget of around £3,000 to transform this garden.

"We’re making sure there will be year-round colour, with lots of spring bulbs, summer flowering plants and also a piece of artwork created by pupils at Stretford High School which will add interest throughout the winter and can be seen as people walk down the main hospital corridor.”

Trust chairwoman Felicity Goodey said: "It is fantastic to see this link between business, schools and the hospital.

“The team has worked really hard and achieved a wonderful garden for our patients and visitors."

The chest clinic is part of Wythenshawe Hospital’s North West Lung Centre, a purpose-built unit dedicated to the treatment of people with respiratory disease including asthma, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, sleep disorders and cystic fibrosis.

The specialist nature of the services provided means that each year around 20,000 patients come to the centre from all over the north west region.
