THOSE who criticise low speed limits in urban areas forget that apart from the added safety for pedestrians, traffic flow is actually improved by such measures and by interruptions caused by zebra or pelican crossings - which reduce the tendency for grid-lock particularly at peak times.
Pedestrians are poorly served in this area (despite a council which proclaims greener and cleaner...) - there are few safe places to cross on Ack Lane, Bramhall Lane South, Bridge Lane and the disgraceful Bramhall Moor Lane has only one safe place to cross - the controlled crossing outside Stepping Hill Hospital - and even loses a footpath at the Rutter's Lane bridge. This must discourage people from walking or using buses on those roads.
In contrast, Woodford Road is an example of how things should be - with frequent traffic islands convenient for bus stops.
