Pensioner sexually assaulted in park

A PENSIONER was sexually assaulted as she walked her dog in Bruntwood Park.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the 71-year-old woman - who lives locally - was grabbed and thrown to the ground during the attack.

At about 4.30pm on Friday, the woman was walking up to a wooded area in the Cheadle park when she noticed a man standing by a tree.

After she walked past him, he came up behind her and pushed her over.

He then sexually assaulted her and ran away.

The woman suffered a broken collarbone during the attack.

The offender is described as a white man and 5ft 2ins tall. He is of slim build and aged between 18 and 25. He has a round, clean shaven face and cropped mousey hair.

His manner was nervous.

Detective Inspector Terry Sweeney, of Stockport CID said: "Not only has this woman been physically harmed, but she has also been left very shaken by this attack.

"I would appeal to anybody who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in and around the park to contact us. Cast your mind back to Friday - it was a warm afternoon and there must have been a lot of people around the park.

"Also because of how this park is laid out, this offender could have run away using one of many routes. Did you see a man running away around this time? If you did, you need to call us.

"What this man has done to this woman is awful and we need to bring him to justice. However, I must stress that attacks of this nature are rare."
