Marie Curie nurses need more support

A BUNCH of goldenhearts are making an urgent appeal for volunteers across St Helens and the surrounding area to help man their Great Daffodil Appeal collections and gather donations from shoppers throughout the area.

Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraising office holds their Daffodil collections during March and April each year to help raise funds to provide one-to-one nursing care for terminally-ill people in their homes.

Last year the collections across the area raised enough to fund over 2,000 hours of one-to-one Marie Curie home nursing care.

This year the charity has a number of collections in St Helens to cover during great Daffodil Appeal and desperately needs extra volunteers to help out at the following venues and dates: March 7 and 8 - Asda St Helens, Kirkland Street.

March 11 and 12 - Morrison’s St Helens, Boundary Road.

Holly Smith, community fundraiser said: “We have some truly wonderful volunteers who give their time to collect each year in the St Helens area, but this year we have an even greater need for our care so we need more volunteers to help cover the collection.

“As a charity we’ve pledged to double the amount of care we’re providing by 2012”.

She added: “We would like to appeal to everyone in the community to give us just two hours of their time this March to help collect in a supermarket. We supply a full kit, and the reaction you get from the general public is wonderful.

“So please get in touch today if you would like to give up a few hours to help fund local cancer care.”
