A 46-year-old man who stabbed another to death following a confrontation in a Cheadle pub has today been convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

46-year old-old Paul Moores, of Oakside Close in Cheadle, was convicted of killing Vincent Collins following a trial at Manchester Crown Court. He was ordered to serve a minimum of 15 years.

"Vincent may have been no angel, but he didn't deserve to be brutally attacked in such a cold-blooded attack."

DI Terry Sweeney

On the night of the murder last August, Vincent was with five friends drinking in the George and Dragon pub in High Street at about 7.45pm.

They were very rowdy and started to sing Manchester City football songs, but their singing became more offensive when they started chanting songs about the Munich air disaster.

A barman came over to the group and asked them to stop singing the Munich song. Vincent carried on singing, then went over to Moores - who had been sat quietly drinking on his own - and was seen to jab him in the face.

Moores told him he 'didn't want any bother', but Vincent punched him in the face. Vincent then turned his attention to a couple sat nearby and Moores got up and left the pub.

At this point Vincent's group were told they wouldn't be served any more alcohol. Vincent was stood at the bar, near the toilets, when Moores came back into the pub and calmly walked towards the toilets.

As he passed Vincent, Moores suddenly lunged at him and stabbed him in the back. He pulled the knife out, telling him: "You won't be hitting me again."

Collins then lay on the floor bleeding while his friends went to his aid. Some of them started to fight with Moores and the bar manager called the police.

A number of officers who had been patrolling nearby arrived on the scene within seconds, disarmed Moores after a brief struggle and arrested him.

Vincent was taken to Stepping Hill hospital where he was treated for the single stab wound, but died three days later.

Detective Inspector Terry Sweeney of Stockport CID said outside the court: "This was the senseless killing of a man who died with a single stab wound.

"This was a premeditated attack in which Moores had time to leave the pub, get the knife, and calmly walk up to his victim before stabbing him.

"Vincent may have been no angel, but he didn't deserve to be brutally attacked in such a cold-blooded attack."

To be be perfectly honest, I think the sentence is a bit harsh. This Vince idiot was singing vile songs, causing trouble, and physically assaulting people in this pub.
What did he think was going to happen by acting like that. He was going to live until 100?
You live by the sword, you die by the sword! And may it be a lesson to all idiots who carry a knife - hit the wrong place and it's a murder charge your're facing.

Life should mean life. This report seems a little one sided, there is no mention of Mr moores previous conviction for a stabbing offence, and though Mr Collins in the words of the police officer involved "may have been no angel" and 'may'have caused some bad feeling in the pub, it is certainly no excuse to stab an unarmed man in the back! Perhaps "creedie" would be happy to have Mr Moores come and live next door to him after he has served his "bit harsh" fiteen years, and could also explain to Mr Collins children why he feels that a fifteen year sentence is too long for pre-meditated murder upon their father.

Yes, I know that it's brutal and horrible for a man to lose his life, bit it's hard to feel sympathy for a bully that was picking on a lone drinker when he was with all his mates, also he himself found other young men's deaths highly amusing.

Unless you were present in the pub at the time or in the courtroom listening to the evidence you have absolutely no right to comment. Given the fact you are solely reading mindless media stories that do not give the facts of the case. This was a pre meditated murder from a man with previous convictions as for having no sympathy `Jimmy` I really don't think that the family needs any from the likes of you! only they know what Vinnie was really like.

He wasn't a bully and you wasn't sat in the court room through the trial so you have no idea what happened!! This is one of my family members you are talking about and he did not deserve to die, obviously Paul Moore is a coward as this was a planned attack as he left the pub and returned with a knife!! All this munich **** has only just come out since the trial has finished and there has never been no mention of this before so dont always believe what you read in the papers!!

Was you in the pub that nite or sat in the courtroom?? NO!! You dont have a clue what happened so before leaving your comments find out the facts!! He deserves alot longer than 15 years as he has carried out vicious attacks before!! Maybe you think its a bit harsh because maybe your just as sad and lonely as Paul Moores or maybe you were one of his friends!!! They were a group of lads in a pub having a drink and a laugh there was no bullying to it!! Paul Moore is just an evil man!!

I'm not condoning what Moores did at all, and no I wasn't in the pub that night so I don't really know what happend, but there has to be some truth in what was reported. There is no justification of a man being stabbed in the back, but IF he has gone around bullying people, then surely you can't be surprised that he will upset someone who will respond in such a violent way.

This moores guy diserves everyhting he got i would like you to know i am a close friend to the family of vincent collins and the papers have just stirred this story up it is not true that he was singing vile songs, but it is true he was singing just city songs, and city songs is all none about the munich accident. so who ever keeps saying that moores got a harsh consequence to his actions, just take it into mind that he commited a bad crime that has made 3 young daughters and a very upset wife never be the same again without this loving father and husband. Vincent didnt deserve what he got but moores did. if you ask me moores deserves to stay in prison for the rest of his life after put vincents family through a time of hell and upset.

I never said Vincent deserved to die, I merely suggested he was on a collision course with a sticky end by behaving the way he was.
Obviosuly it's a tragedy that he's left three daughters and a wife.
Now I know Moores has previous knifing convictions, I take back what I said about 15 years. They should chuck away the key if he didn't learn his lesson after the first time.
All this goes to show what a pit the G&D is anyway. Much prefer the redder end of Cheadle as I always have.

I always had a laugh with him and my two kids idolised him. He always had time to speak to you no matter who you were. We, as a family, were devastated when he died and now you low-life are slagging him off when he's not here to defend himself. All his family have been through enough and now they have to put up with all this crap from people who never knew him and have just believed what the papers decided to write. It's a disgrace, that low-life should have been hung for taking such a decent, loving man away from his lovely family. I would personally put that noose around his neck! He never sang any Munich songs, he was just having a night out.
You lot out there should spare a thought for his poor family before you print such crap. Bredbury will never be the same without Vinny and we all miss you so much x

And I like the way nobody has commented on the very pertinent point made by the guy who sid he new Vincent and he knew he carried a knife and that he was stabbed twice before himself.
I reiterate what I said previously about living by the sword and dying by the sword.

It says on the Greater Manchester Police website that V was singing Munich songs. Check it out if you don't beleive. I hardly think the police would spread lies and they were at the trial.

And I like the way nobody has commented on the very pertinent point made by the guy who sid he new Vincent and he knew he carried a knife and that he was stabbed twice before himself. I reiterate what I said previously about living by the sword and dying by the sword.

the only police i saw at the trail, were the ones who arrived at the scene, and they only had to say what they saw and what happened when they got there.not one of the police that day when they took the stand said anything about munich songs, police may off said that in there report but not one of the police said that in the trial, the papers are just trying to add bits on to it to make there story good,so like i said what ever went on that night ,no one will no,but paul moores was out of order to do what he did,he went home for the knife he planed to do what he did, just like the other 2 he did,it dosnt matter what any one does there was no need to use a knife,
