TRAFFORD Housing Trust (THT) has welcomed its new board chairman – a former chief executive of Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council.
Bernard Knight takes up the post at the three-year-old housing association, having retired from the Greater Manchester local authority in 2007.
Bernard spent 36 years in local government, 17 at chief executive level. During his time at Bolton, he oversaw the transfer of more than 19,000 homes to Bolton at Home, which is responsible for the management of council owned properties Mr Knight was the chair of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities for three years and sits on the Civil Service Commission.
He has lived in Trafford for more than 35 years and is also a board member and trustee of the Halle Concerts Society.
He said: “I am delighted to take up the post at such a promising young registered social landlord. I look forward to working with my fellow board members at such an exciting time for the trust as it starts to deliver its first new build projects, which will start to alleviate the shortage of affordable housing in Trafford.”
Matthew Gardiner, chief executive of THT, added: “The theme of our third year is adding value for customers and neighbourhoods by getting value for money and by developing our employees. The experience Bernard brings to the trust is a major contribution to this theme.”
