Council’s festive warning for drink drivers

MOTORISTS are urged to be aware of the potential consequences of driving after drinking alcohol as the festive season approaches.

If people get behind the wheel while over the limit, they could be fined up to £5,000, have their driving licence taken away or face a jail sentence and criminal record.

Trafford Council is supporting the national ‘Think! Don’t Drink and Drive’ campaign this year, and will host an event on Tuesday (December 9) to raise awareness of some of the issues surrounding drink driving.

A crashed car and road safety trailer will be on display on Shaws Road, Altrincham town centre, from 10am.

Actors made up as road collision victims will be handing out information and members of the public can take part in an interactive exercise to highlight the dangers of drink driving.

Executive councillor Matt Colledge said: “I would urge all motorists to think twice before getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol during the festive season and, of course, throughout the year.

"The consequences of such actions can cost a lot of inconvenience, money, and, in the worst case scenarios, lives. We want Trafford’s roads to be as safe as possible and everyone has their part to play in looking after themselves and others. Don’t make the decision to drink drive.”
