Arrests made after operation

SIX people have been arrested after Trafford police conducted a forcewide day of action to tackle vehicle crime.

The officers seized two vehicles, conducted two search warrants and, in conjunction with partner agencies, made eight visits to scrap and second hand car dealers.

High profile patrols were conducted in hotspot areas and officers identified and warned the owners of 415 vehicles that were left vulnerable to vehicle crime.

Furthermore, as a prevention measure, free security screw-fitting clinics were held across the borough, resulting in 197 vehicles having their number plates secured.

Chief Superintendent Janette McCormick of Trafford Police said: “The day of action was a huge success and our results reflect the ongoing commitment of the Safer Trafford Partnership to prevent vehicle crime and target those who commit it.

“Throughout the day officers inspected unattended vehicles and found many with shopping bags, purses, wallets, satellite navigation systems and loose change on display.

“Items such as these are actively targeted by thieves and should be removed before leaving a vehicle unattended. We are also reminding the public to park in safe, busy and well-lit areas close to CCTV cameras.”
