THE Highwayman in Rainow has been named one of the top food venues in the North West.
The Thwaites pub won the Casual Dining Venue of the Year at Cheshire Life’s Food and Wine Awards 2008 – 2009, at an awards ceremony at City of Manchester stadium last week.
Last year, the pub was highly commended in the same category. Since it started serving food two years ago, it has been one of only two Cheshire pubs to be awarded a rosette in the AA Food Guide. It also won Daniel Thwaites’ Catering Newcomer of the Year award.
Landlady Kristiane Harrison, said: “This award means so much to us because we know how well regarded the awards are within the industry and among the food conscious public.
“However, we’re determined not to rest on our laurels and to continue to create new, wholesome dishes, making good use of the wealth of fantastic produce we have in the direct local area.”
Louise Taylor, editor of Cheshire Life and judging panellist, said: “We consider The Highwayman to be almost the perfect gastro-pub. It’s a wonderful, historic and cosy old inn with a warm welcome from great staff, but the food is quite exceptional.
“There’s an emphasis on regional and local produce, whether it’s the traditional pub staples or more modern dishes. It’s just a great place to eat.”
