Poynton 181-5 dec, Timperley 183-3. Timperley won by seven wickets.

Poynton produced their best batting of the season but still slumped to a second successive defeat. Poynton's attack would normally expect to defend such a total, with the opposition only having a rain reduced 41 overs to bat, but Timperley eased home with an unbroken stand of 124.

This was nevertheless an entertaining game, producing more runs in the reduced number of overs than in many league games that go the full distance.

Poynton opener Damian Stringer showed his confidence had been fully restored by getting crease time in the second team the previous week, as he batted through the innings for 91 not out. Brian Kingham made 36 in an opening stand of 84 where the pair got Poynton off to a good start with some commanding driven boundaries.

Simon Turner also continued his big hitting form by clearing the ropes three times in the closing overs.

After some early quick scoring from Colin Byrne, who made 30 from 37 balls, quick wickets fell to leave Timperley 59-3. From here opener Tom Twiney took charge, striking the ball cleanly to all areas.

Francois van der Meurve had made a very uncertain start batting at five, but he battled and survived, and by the end was striking sixes out of the ground. Twiney finished unbeaten on 97, made at a run a ball with 12 fours and two sixes, and van der Meurve 40 not out, with three sixes.
