A WORKMANLIKE performance from Glazebury’s First XI saw the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division Two leaders bounce back from last week’s defeat to see off Trinity at Hurst Lane last Saturday.
Things did not start well as the Bramhall side took control at the crease by reaching 58-0 and then 100-1 before the Glazebury bowlers started to make an impression.
Eventually the run rate was kept to a manageable level as three wickets from the impressive Rhys Marsh made it 119 for 4 before the innings ended on 185 for 8 after 48 overs.
The Glazebury reply needed a solid start but early wickets put the pressure on immediately, as they slipped to 6 for 2 in the opening exchanges.
It was the partnership of Dave Mason and Jack Warhurst that proved the difference, as Mason played the anchor and Warhurst set about punishing the Trinity bowlers.
Mason crafted a crucial 56 that included six fours and two sixes before finally getting out, but Warhurst was not to be deterred by that dismissal and the big wicket-keeper finished off the job in style by ending on 47 not out and handing his side the total of 187 for 5 to win by five wickets.
Glazebury’s second XI continued their mid-season revival in Division Three, with an away win over second-placed Hartford.
On losing the toss, Glazebury were forced to field first and Hartford soon faltered, as Nicholson struck twice to leave them 17 for 2.
The hosts progressed to 72 for 3 and looked in position to build a decent total, but the bowlers then took control as the hosts lost six wickets for 13 runs and slipped to 82 for 9, with Shaun Conroy notching figures of 4 for 6.
An almost customary wobble at the start of the Glazebury batting effort saw them reduced to 24 for 3, but a steady 23 from Mike Nutkins helped to bring the target closer and then a decisive sixth wicket stand between Dave Gibson and Mark Rowan sealed the deal.
