Home form helps Warrington shine

WARRINGTON Athletics Club had plenty of home success to celebrate when hosting the second Northern League match in scorching hot weather at Victoria Park.

Sam Dykes impressed in the men’s events, producing a storming run to finish first in the 400m, narrowly missing out on a club record with a personal best of 49.3secs.

Oliver Park’s multi-talented approach to the event saw him finish in the top three in the pole vault (1st B), 400m hurdles, 3,000m steeplechase,110m hurdles and 1,500m.

Mark Pendlebury won both the shot and discus.

Other victories came from Tom Jervis (B 800m), Matt Hulse (B 400m hurdles), Chris Wells (110mH B), Keith Lavelle (A Javelin), Tom McKeever (B javelin), Wojciech Czaja (A triple jump) and Patrick Muirhead (B triple jump).

Dominic Mahon returned from a 5K event on Friday night to run a brilliant race, finishing second and only 11 seconds slower than in the event he ran a day earlier.

In the women’s events, Lauren McDonnell (A 400m hurdles), Sally Dempster (B 400m hurdles and B hammer) and Katy Entwistle (A pole vault) all won their under 17s event.

Under 20s athlete Heather Beeton won the A hammer.
