Warriors win races against region’s best youngsters

WARRIORS of Warrington swimmers collected more than two dozen medals at the ASA North West Region Age Group Championships in Manchester.

Ten were gold.

David Richardson was a winner in the 1500m freestyle event, while the boys’ medley team secured gold too.

Other medal winners on the opening weekend at the Aquatics Centre included Hugh Takemoto, Oliver Houghton, Alicia Pierce, Aaron Kirchin-Brown, Shannon Campbell and Kathleen Dawson.

They continued in the same vein on the second weekend, with the club represented in 33 finals and returning home with a haul of eight gold, seven silver and six bronze gongs.

The girls replicated the success of the boys seven days earlier by powering to first place in the 400m team medley.

Aaron Hill, Anya Richardson, Bethany Young, James Ross, Oliver Houghton and Ryan McGhee adding their names to the list of medal winners. Houghton was ranked top of the overall standings for under 13s boys, while Takemoto was runner-up in the under 12s boys’ table.

David Richardson was at the summit of the under 14s boys’ pile.

Campbell (under 12s girls), Hill (under 13s boys), Pierce (under 13s girls), Kirchin-Brown, Ross (under 14s boys) and Young (under 14s girls) all rated among the top 10 swimmers in their respective age categories.
