BURTONWOOD slugger Michael Dixon has been picked for Great Britain’s Junior Baseball team ahead of their European Qualifiers campaign in Toulouse.
The Manchester Grammar School student, who has just finished his first year in sixth form studying Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Maths, first took interest in the sport after a trip to Boston at the age of 10, starting his journey with local side the Halton Polecats at under 13 level.
He moved through the ranks to the under 16s and then on to senior team the Halton Jaguars, also attending the GB Baseball Academy in Milton Keynes to hone his skills.
He now hopes to take the step onto the international stage in his stride, travelling out to France in the summer for GB's qualifying fixtures for the European Championships.
“I am so happy to have been chosen to represent Great Britain in what is an incredibly important year for the country on the sporting stage,” said the 17-year-old.
“The competition in Toulouse is going to be challenging but I’m certain that me and my teammates have the skills to compete.”
