LYMM Oughtrington Park missed the chance to cut the gap on Meller Braggins Division Two leaders Chester County Officers when falling to a two-wicket defeat.
Lymm struggled to keep their wickets on a lively pitch, with only opener Chris Beck and Brad McIntosh able to post a score in excess of 30.
It was therefore important that they bowled well to defend a total of 120, with spinners Brad McIntosh, 4 for 30, and skipper Phil Whelan, 3 for 40, putting Chester in some trouble at 90 for 7, only for Lymm to drop a couple of catches to allow Chester to seal a victory with an over to spare.
Lymm’s second team had more joy against Chester, Shovan Chattergee’s five-wicket haul helping remove the order with little fuss.
Chasing a total of 106, Lymm were confident they could grab all 25 points on offer and wasted no time in reaching 110 for 3, with Chris Oakes’ unbeaten 50 helping to reinforce Lymm’s position at the top of Division B.
