GRAPPENHALL’S Third team leapt back to the top of the Sunday Division One following a nail-biting victory over Didsbury on a rain-soaked track.
Grappers welcomed the reigning champions to an extremely damp Broad Lane having spent hours shifting more than 500 gallons of water in order to get the match underway.
The swing of Richard Wiles, who finished with 4 for 32, added two wickets to the earlier efforts of Ian Hall and Neil Muttock as Didsbury moved to 80 for 4, though they crumbled against the spin of Albert Pennington, 3 for 22 to finish on 128.
The hosts struggled in reply, with Mark Tyerman, Jamie Bye, Neil Muttock, Matt Bennison and Ian Hall departing cheaply as the thirds wobbled on 45 for 5.
Luckily Matt Titchard stepped in to save the day, his 46 helping Grappers to a 25-point victory that continues their unbeaten record and keeps them top of the table with only eight games remaining.
