Panacea gutted: Alderley bar destroyed by blaze

A HUGE fire has gutted the new Panacea Alderley bar/restaurant in Alderley Edge, four days after its lavish opening.

The former Brasingamens bar, in Queens Court, Wilmslow Road, has had a £3.2 million refurbishment over the past six months, splitting the ground floor between a 100 cover restaurant with an outdoor dining area, and a day time bar area.

Upstairs were bar booths, similar to those in Panacea Manchester.

The fire took hold just after 5am this morning (Wednesday). Fire crews from Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Bollington sped to the scene, but they were unable to save the building, whose wooden roof was totally destroyed.

By the time the morning rush hour started, police had closed all the major roads in the surrounding area, resulting in big traffic tailbacks.

The roads were re-opened at 10.30am.

Before the fire, Panacea’s owners said: “No expense has been spared on the finishes, from corian table and bar surfaces, to the furniture, this time provided by designers Poltrona Frau of Italy. The pieces designed and made for Panacea are prototypes that are not found in any other venue.”

Pictures of the inferno will be uploaded at lunchtime.
